We are seeking a Psychiatrist to join our Behavioral Health team in a full-time day role reporting directly to the Chief of Psychiatry and collaborating closely with the Departments of Medicine and Emergency Departments. This role is integral to delivering comprehensive, patient-centered psychiatric care across inpatient medical, emergency department, and consultative settings.
Responsibilities:
Evaluate and treat patients with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions and behavioral disturbances across all inpatient and in the emergency department while they are being evaluated/treated for their medical conditions.
- Provide psychiatric consultation to interdisciplinary medical teams, supporting diagnosis, treatment planning, and transitions of care
- Deliver crisis intervention services, including management of patients with suicidal or homicidal ideation
- Manage evidence-based psychopharmacologic treatment while accounting for medical comorbidities and medication interactions
- Collaborate closely with nursing, social work, case management, and medical specialists to optimize patient outcomes, disposition, and length of stay
- Support supervision, education, and integration of psychiatric Advanced Practice Providers and contribute to psychiatric care pathways and quality initiatives
Qualifications:
- Medical degree with Board Certification in Psychiatry; Consultation-Liaison fellowship preferred
- Eligible for credentialing under South Shore Health medical staff bylaws and licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts
- Experience in inpatient and emergency department psychiatric care preferred
- Clinical expertise or interest in complex medical-psychiatric populations, including geriatric, perinatal, or addiction psychiatry
- Strong clinical judgment with the ability to manage psychiatric care in medically complex environments
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills within interdisciplinary care teams
